Trudging's Sobriety Date

Today is Trudging's 16th Birthday!

We just keep coming back - no matter what.

I remember when I was new people used to say "Just don't drink, even when your ass falls off, just don't drink." I thought that was a bunch of crap. Who ever heard of a person's ass falling off??? Well, when my ass fell off, I gathered it up with me and took it to a meeting.

Last night I slept with the heat off and the window open just a touch. I woke to the song of birds. That is a good thing. I am hopeful that today will be better than yesterday. I am going to put my bike rack on my car and ride home from work tonight. I am still a bit afraid of going downhill (after a bike accident last August) - the ride TO work is mostly downhill. The ride home is mostly UPhill. So, that will be good.

You know what they say
If you fall off a bike, you just have to get back on it.
I almost cracked my window open lastnight at bedtime too, maybe I will tonight :)
Thanks for sharing~

That is a lot of energy, If I only had a part of that or the ambition. Keep up the good work the downhill part will eventually come. But ism't that the way we always do it the hard way first, then we finally surrender.

It was so cool last night I almost did not use my air conditioning. Hah! See everything's relative.

;)

Sorry about editing you on the comments on my site but had a spoiler in there. Definitely tainted the experiment. Congrats, you are in a small minority that notice things.

I heard that too! My 2nd AA meeting this woman told me after, "I have 2 things to tell you, 1) 90 meetings in 90 days and 2) don't drink, you can't drunk if you don't drink.

I was like DUH, I know this. Um, I am like here cause I can't stop. And 90 meetings in 90 days, No Way, too much commitment for thhis little alcoholic at that time. Ha!

My buttocks fell off too! LOL.

It sounds like you had such a wonderful night. How special to be able to listen to those birds. Hopefully you gained euphoria from that ride home. :)

Update: the weather turned sour and I ended up loading my bike back on the bike rack and drove it home. disappointing.

After a spring-like January and Febuary we are getting winter weather here. I cannot wait to open a window.

It was the losses of the material things that got me to AA meetings. I got sicker and sicker and dryer and dryer. I got so dry I thought I might burst into flames if I spent too much time in the sun.

Then I hit the alcoholic bottom - right in the rooms, as an AA member, by taking another drink.

The desire to drink had not been removed in the meetings. I had not been able to "share" my way out. I had not been able to "keep it green" enough. I had run out of "just don't drink" tools and there was nothing between me and the next first-drink except God - and I hadn’t yet turned my life and will over to him completely - a process I now know is living the 12 steps.

Had I not come to AA so soon, I probably could have hit bottom much sooner. But unfortunately I stopped drinking.

What? He did he just say what I think he said?

The soul suffering went on for two more years - meetings meetings meetings with no Program.

There are some people I am sure who cannot believe what they are hearing, when I say that. But it only sounds crazy if you have not learned "Our description of the alcoholic".

Anyone who thinks alcoholism goes away when the drinking stops, you miss it. When I stop drinking, I do not get better - I get WORSE.

This is why non-alcoholics can NEVER get it. Why they will always still be "recovering". They are trying to recover from a disease they do not have.

Now THAT is truly one of craziest things I have EVER heard - and I have heard more Fifth Steps from real alcoholics than you can imagine.

Peace,

Danny S
