Monday Morning

I talked to my friend Sean for a long time last night. His Mom died yesterday. We were able to talk about how grateful we both were for being sober and being able to "be there" for our parents as they were dying. Once again, I am so grateful for the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, and for my friends like Sean.

I have often (but probably not recently) said that if all I got out of my sobriety was being able to be with my dad in his last months, it would all have been worth it. Of course, I have gotten a lot more than that, but I still stand by that comment. To be able to be a functioning part of a family, to be someone people can count on, that is a gift from God.

I just got back from the gym. I managed to run 3 miles again this morning. It is good to be able to do that. If I can stop sweating now, I can get showered and ready for work.

"Your job now is to be at the place where you may be of maximum helpfulness to others, so never hesitate to go anywhere if you can be helpful. You should not hesitate to visit the most sordid spot on earth on such an errand. Keep on thee firing line of life with these motives and God will keep you unharmed." -- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 102

Try going to work dripping with sweat.
Maybe they'll give you a free 1/2 day off.

There are many gifts sobriety offers us humans ..non compare to the gift of sincerity and being able to be there for others.Nothing.

Thanks MC,

Last nite I prayed for God to give me the strength to be there for my Grandma. She has no idea who I am anymore and it is like getting my heart ripped out of my chest every time I see her. We were close. I believe I just read what I needed to get the strength to go see her today. I will put the bikes on the rack and take Reid. There is a great park with lots of trail about 5mins from her assisted living residence.

Thanks again,
G~
