How Self-Centered is a Blog?

Over the last week or so, I have really become concerned about this. I feel that all I talk about is Me! Me! Me! I know there is value in sharing our experience, strength, and hope, but I am concerned about vanity here.

I am not in my happiest frame of mind. I have faith in God and concentrate on turning my thoughts to others, I am going to lots of meetings. I am reaching out to others. I am practiced at the art of finding gratitude in all things, great and small. I am doing the self-care that you all hear about every single day in my blog. I have a deep and abiding faith that all will be exactly the way it is supposed to be. But right now it just does not feel too good. And I am concerned about blogging about this.

So - the question is: how self-centered do you think a blog is?

If you look at what a blog really is - a web log, a log being a kind of a diary - then yes, it is self-centred. It is meant to be. This is your diary. It is about you. Those of us who choose to put our 'diaries' on-line do it for a number of reasons. Some may do it for 'look at me' reasons, others may do it just to get things off their chest, others just to keep a record of their thoughts and feelings. We don't demand that others read our blogs, we just put stuff out there.

I think that being honest and genuine about yourself can be quite selfless. It shows that we all share similar thoughts and concerns and feelings. Readers may choose to continue reading or not - no-one forces them.

Keep on blogging as long as you need or want to. I'll keep reading as long as you do.

This is your blog.
Make it as self centered as you want it.As I recall our recovery is all about ourselves , right?
And ,to remind you MC.You share about others..your kids, grandkids,
sister and friends in AA.
Share whatever you need to if it makes you feel better.I have grown ten folds since coming out of isolation in my recovery and sharing in my blog.Whatever works for you MC..is your right.
Thanks for all that you do share here.

I agree with Tab and dying for a drink . . . you are sharing the very essence of you on your blog. How else are we suppose to know the real you -- walking thru Your fears, sharing Your experiences, expressing Your thoughts . . . it is a digital journal, a forum meant for your thoughts.

Not only that but you speak of a language that we as recovering alcoholics understand. Thru this you also come and visit us, and help us in our life of recovery.

To me all that you speak of, like getting 4th place, the pics you show of your appreciation of nature around you cannot be possible without the footwork that you do. It is great to read of you, how your life has evolved as a sober member of AA.

Keep journaling, I relaly enjoy knowing you and having you as a part of my recovery.

here here to all that was already said MC- I personally appreciate all our blogs, I admire peoples courage to be honest with themselves and all of us... it helps me stay honest...a lot of ways when I blog its like a meeting... I listen (read) to what everyone has to say... I take what I want and leave the rest and offer my friendship and support

I personally dont think its self centered in the negative... does that make sense?

Keep doing what you are doing...
hugs and Happy Tuesday

I'd rather you write posts about your experience, strenght and hope -- than mine.
How many times have you read the blogs of others in recovery and "got" something out of it? Maybe a good reminder, something you need to hear that day. Same as in a meeting.
If that's self-centered, so be it.

In your selfishness you help me all the time. Sharing your experience strength and hope. That is what we do. I Love having you on line to stop in on. I need more positive roll models that are women. You are one. Please keep being selfish. I have my own selfish reasons for wanting you here :) You ROCK!

Your blog is great! I'm with what everybody said it's a good place to stop and a good way to express ourselves. Writing/journally has helped me to take things off my chest and it can be helpful to others in recovery who read it, it has helped me too. Keep writing,ou have a great message.

It's your blog, so write whatever you want to write. Writing about what recovery, strength, and hope means to you is a good thing for others to read about.

Maybe our Blogs are all fairly self centered but, I get a lot out of reading other people's Blogs and that is all I care about.
