Late Entry

I am about to plant my butt on the sofa for a few hours of football... followed by a meeting... followed by coming home, eating dinner, and going to bed. Woo Hoo! Such excitement!

This morning I got up and looked out the window and decided to forget about driving across town to the meeting I like to go to on Sunday Mornings. It was snowing with temperatures in the single digits. I decided to go back to bed. Since I woke up, I have been indulging in bizarre activities, like spontaneously cleaning a closet that has needed to be cleaned for 5 years! What the hell is up with that? I have another day off work tomorrow, maybe I feel the pressure is off me to pack a weekend worth into two days, I can do it in three instead. Who knows?

Last night while I was at church, my friend left me a message and told me she was going to the 5:30 meetings. This friend has been sober 15 years and attends one meeting, and only that meeting, so when she said she was going to a different meeting, I was concerned. So, after church I got the message and flew the 5 or so miles to the club to see if I could find her. I did and we went out for dinner. It was great. We went to a Thai restaurant. Her date of birth is the day after mine, so it is great fun to talk with someone who is exactly my age. We can also reminisce about people from that group who no longer come around, or have passed. Oh, and there was nothing wrong with her, she just felt like going to a meeting and she knew I usually go to that one.

My head hurts today and I feel cooped up, but I will be OK. I am so sick of this weather, and believe me, I am not the only one.

If you have a second, go over and visit Lounge Daddy, he is a blogger working on getting sober!

"We know that while the alcoholic keeps away from drink, as he may do for months or years, he reacts much like other men. We are equally positive that once he takes any alcohol whatever into his system, something happens, both in the bodily and mental sense, which makes it virtually impossible for him to stop. The experience of any alcoholic will abundantly confirm this." -- Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 22-23

You inadvertently pointed out the importance of being a "regular" at a meeting or group. People can have a reasonable expectation that you will be there, if they need to find you. Or if they need to avoid you -- LOL.

I agree with Dave, there are some people that I don't get to see very often (on the other side of town), and I will pop into their meetings....cause I know they will be there. I hope there are people out there who think the same thing about me.

ha a good game you missed Chicago scared the hell out of me. The Chargers just suck when it counts. It looks like I will be in Boulder/Denver Jan 24th and 25th. How does that look for you.

We had some glorious Thai food Friday night at a restaurant I pass daily and have never entered. The Golden Room has been there for 25 years. Sometimes I am just slow.

Wow, thanks for the mention, MC :)
This is very nice of you.

It’s very odd hearing of people south & southwest of here getting totally dumped on this winter; and here in the great white north aka Michigan where we should have had snow and freezing temps three months ago - but we have had 40 degree weather all winter until just today, when we actually had some snow that didn’t immediately melt.

Wanna trade weather? lol

Hang in there. Spring will be here before ya know it....at least that's what I'm praying for, but hell I'd be happy with 20 degrees right now!

I have one meeting a week that I try not to miss (my home group, an open speaker). I also like to attend a discussion meeting another time in the week, but it's tricky with three little ones at home. I usually bring my three-month-old with me and he'll either sleep through or be wide awake and absorb the spirituality and fellowship through osmosis :)

People sometimes ask me if things are ok when I attend a meeting I don't normally go to. Sometimes they are, sometimes they're not and I could really use the support. Either way, I always get something positive out of it that reminds me that I was meant to be there at that exact moment.

Happy 24 hours :)
