Friday Morning

I woke this morning not knowing immediately what day of the week it is. I thought it was Saturday. But then I remembered my LUNCH plans for today. I am taking a co-worker out for lunch. Her birthday is on Sunday. I bought her a gift certificate for a pedicure - she has never had one. We had "words" yesterday and I was so furious with her, I would have wished she could vanish. Thank God that I can pray when I feel like that and God will help me to get over it - if I let him.

"We have not once sought to be one in a family, to be a friend among friends, to be a worker among workers, to be a useful member of society. Always we tried to struggle to the top of the heap, or to hide underneath it. This self-centered behavior blocked a partnership relation with any one of those about us. Of true brotherhood we had small comprehension." - Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 53

us alcoholics are such extreme creatures... usually when I read this I totally relate with that part about stiving to be at the top of the heap- me a so super competitive person, have to be the best of the best of the best of the best... get it...
but that hasnt worked so well with me lately... LOL but I went to the oppistie extremem and thought to myself.. (my 1st problem thinking.. LOL) and thought, I will fly under the radar for awhile...so I have and not really wanting to be bugged by anyone (no I mean just at work.. maybe family too?) but I never realized that was selfish adn self centered until today...
because I never related to the trying to be at the "bottom" of the heap... wow thanks MC you made me notice something I have been doing... :)

tkdjunkie, I can't leave a comment on your blog because I am not a member of whatever.... and I am not going to become a member. Keep coming back and visit the blogs linked here. There is lots of good recovery out there, and many of us are blogging. Hang in there.

I am grateful that you wake up sober today even though you experienced a brief moment of "what day is this."

You are a spiritual mentor :)
