What it takes...

To keep me running. And to think they say all it takes is a good pair of shoes! I keep buying more and more paraphernalia. Yesterday I bought this super cool Nike + iPod thing to track my runs. There is a little chip that goes in your shoe, and a little receiver that goes in your iPod and then it tracks your time, your mileage, you pace, calories burned etc. AND you get to listen to your favorite tunes all at the same time!

I hope this doesn't sound too incredibly vain, but I passed a mirror at the gym today and had to smile. Now don't get the idea I think I am any raving beauty as I approach my 55th birthday, but I smiled at my reflection none the less. Here I am, a woman who drank daily for 18 years, smoked 2 packs a day for 25 years, got up to over 200 lbs. not very long ago, I have 3 fused discs and 2 titanium rods in my neck, I have arthritis all throughout my spine - and when I passed that mirror, I realized that I look like a fit, healthy, human being. (and I am running 3 miles on a regular basis!) How cool is that!!!

Life is incredibly good. No matter what, as long as we are sober, life is good.

Thank you all you bloggers for what you add to my sobriety. It is a lot!

I thank you!

YOU are an inspiration! I heard a speaker last weekend who, after pretty much having her leg removed by a truck (she was drunk) and going through tons of surgery, ran TWO marathons. It sparked in me a desire. My marathon training book (for people who don't like to run!) arrived yesterday. Like I promised myself, I started training on the day it arrived. Actually, it's pre-training, but it's me DOING IT. What you shared just added fuel to my fire. Thank you!

Yes and you should smile at the beautiful reflection looking back! Running 3 miles a day, most people int he 20s (including myself now that I am back w the BPs) do not run this or even attempt.

You are an inspiration MC and I love you for that and MORE!

Very cool, MC! You're a wonderful inspiration of a woman in sobriety turning her life -- and body -- around.

You worked hard to get where you are. Look in that mirror, girl. There is nothing wrong with appreciating your accomplishments.

Life is good, isn't it.
