Excitement!

I have registered to run a half-marathon in Phoenix in January.  I have booked a room at the above hotel.  I will book my flights today.  I cannot tell you how happy this makes me.

I was just about to register for the race yesterday when I decided that I really could talk to my sponsor about it.  When I told her I was hesitant to spend the money, she just said "Hell, you spend more than that on one outfit!"  Well, she does have a point...

So I will spend the next few months training for a half-marathon.  And I have to say, if you are not a runner and you think I am taking half measures, try running 13.1 miles and see if you think that is HALF of anything!  For a 57 year old woman (which I will be in January), that is a long way to go.  And I am happy and grateful to go there.  (I tried training for a full marathon last year, and ended up so injured I am still not right.)

I have excitement in my heart about this race!

Yippee! YGG...

I will be 56 in January! What day??????

I am so jealous of you, running like the wind, feeling like a winner.

And happy for you too.

Might as well go ahead and spend the $$...can't take it with you, right??

LOL - how funny that you would think any of us think a 1/2 marathon is not a HUGE deal !!!
I'm jealous that you have the balls(?) to spend alot of money on clothes.

Half marathons availed us 13 miles.

I think I stayed at that place. It was very swanky (I knew someone in management). But people kept jumping out of the bushes with water & towels & newspapers. I spent a fortune in tips.

Don't forget AnnArbor to Dexter..so lovely in the spring;)

Looks like a RITZ CARLTON HOTEL!

I could handle the .1 mile of your 13.1 miles. Only a crack-pot-head could call you a "half-doer" of ANYTHING!

(And I don't even know you--even though I do identify with you in lots of the stuff you write so well.

FIFTY-SEVEN! I don't believe it.
Well, if you say so. And I'll tell you 'ANOTHER' thing. If first thing in the morning, Mary Christine is
happy, so are lots of AA bloggers here are happy--including
happ-y-roni

Wow! I admire you. I would love to run but every time I try my hip goes all wonky and my heel spur in my right foot gets irritated.

And I'm only 36.

Hope you have a great time training and running. Sometimes the training is awful but I think those of us who have gone through it understand how great we feel on the other side.

As my father and I sometimes say "you can't take it with you."

My longest run ever achieved was 5km. You're a goddess! A goddess with a nice hotel, I might add :)

Hi there! Found you through a Google search; new to Blogger and trying to find other people who are in AA and recovering. That's awesome that you registered for the half marathon!! And that hotel looks beautiful! I used to run but I've been lazy lately - lol! Hope you don't mind but I subscribed to your blog. Hope you visit soon!

Mary Christine...I am new to blogging...however I am on the opposite spectrum of you, as a child of an alcoholic...I was trying to find a community of my own and via google, got sucked into yours....I just wanted to pause for a moment and tell you I like the way you write...seemingly very happy and breezy...you have a very charming style....good luck with your marathon and beyond....and congratulations on having the strength to stay sober...it is the greatest gift you can give to yourself and your family...take care...

Looks like a very inviting place to be. I'd go in a heartbeat. You would find me in or around the pool.

As for the running - not so much. I would be lucky to be able to run around my block.

Lots of great things for you to look forward to. No wonder you have excitement in your heart.

Here you go - AGAIN. Good for you, and I admire that you admit your limits and go forward. Just no stopping you. Great time of year for Phoenix.

I love your blogs.
A half marathon. You are so much braver than I am. Ive just entered a local 6 mile road race. Its called Percy Pudding and is quite famous. Its in the Guiness Book of Records for some reason. It attracts the serious, amateur and fun runners. Everyone gets a prize, a Christmas pudding. We wil give ours away as it has whisky in it. Im 49 and it s the first time Ive had courage to do this kind of thing. What a laugh.
