Helicopters in the sky

I drove to Broomfield, CO last night to pick up my ring. On the way, I noticed four helicopters hovering over the Jefferson County Airport, and quickly surmised that some guy would be arriving from LA on his way to Boulder County Jail. The traffic was awful! But my ring is beautiful!

I lived in Broomfield when I got sober back in '84, and although the area has changed/grown much, a shortcut I remembered from the 80s still worked. It was like a trip down memory lane/shortcut.

I took a day of vacation today. I am going to head out to the gym in a little while. I hope to run 4 miles this morning. I have managed to amass my record mileage this month (34 miles as of yesterday) and hope to put 40 miles on these feet by the end of August.

Later on this morning my sponsee is going to take me to the house she and her partner just fixed and flipped. She is having a hard time. I hope that it will be helpful to her to spend a couple of hours with her sponsor. She is a person who would rather call her sponsor when she is having a fabulous day. When things aren't going so well, she just keeps it to herself. I find it difficult to be patient with that kind of behavior in a person who is sober over 10 years. I saw her last night at a meeting and it took her over 15 minutes just to tell me what was going on. All that said, I just love her and I hate to see her in pain.

I think TRUDGING was flying the lead chopper. she'll elt us know, I'm sure.

Back in my track days as a teenager, even though I was a sprinter, I probably did 40-60 miles every month. I credit that for having a strong heart today.

Enjoy your days off.

I used to work with someone who would take forever to tell me one fact, and it was really distracting. Finally, I told him how long it took for him to tell me and that I would start saying "you're losing me" and that let him get right to the point.

Those that take a long time to say the point make for great story tellers, very detailed and usually they paint a picture verbally. I see this with Mitch, sometimes I too get frustrated but have learned to love him for his detailed message (my message here is getting detailed now, I do hope I made my pint and will stop now)

:)

Enjoy your day off!

Have a great day off and spending time with your sponsee. I have to admit that I'm one of those that has trouble spilling the beans some time (ok, a lot) when I know I need to talk about something and don't want to face it. God bless you for your patience!

I am calling my sponsor now ~

Is it typical to have a sponsor even after 10 years of sobriety?

I really admire your length of time, Mary Christine.

Redhead Gal, I think it is always a good idea to have a sponsor.

I don't have a sponsee yet, so I don't know. Helicopters that guy is truly a freak of nature.

I know for me, to answer Redhead, I'm nearly 11 years sober and if I didn't have my sponsor and talk to her every couple of days, I'd be a nutcase! Alcoholism is a disease without a cure, but we are well contingent on the maintenance of a spiritual condition. That includes having a sponsor to help me with my thinking! Mary Christine, thanks so much for great posts and enjoy your days!

wow, lots of running miles! I've got over 40 on my bike this past three weeks... That's huge for me....

I know what you mean about alkies who isolate, esp. when they know better... It's kinda of the "default" position. I hate it whenI find myself doing that. Thankfully, I have an HP who brought me to the blogoshpere, and has surrounded me with recovering peeps here in the reality-osphere...
