Wednesday Morning

This will be my last day of work until next Tuesday. I am excited about having 5 days in a row where I don't have to go to work. But I have a lot of work to get done today.

I am fighting a feeling of sadness over missing a call from my son yesterday. I went to a meeting after work, and for the first time since he left in July, I turned my phone off for the meeting. I have been telling people that I am leaving my phone on, sorry, but that is how my son communicates with me and I am not missing a call from him. So, this one time I turn off my phone, he called. He also called my home phone, and his message sounded sad, but if it was 6:00 p.m. here, it was something like 4 a.m. in Iraq. He was probably tired. I don't care if they are thirty days or thirty years old, a mother always is a mother. And he will always be my baby, even though I am aware that he is a grown man. Hopefully he called someone else in the family and I will hear about it today.

"With each passing day of our lives, may every one of us sense more deeply the inner meaning of AA's simple prayer:
God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change,
Courage to change the things we can,
And wisdom to know the difference."
Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 125

You are right, 30 days or 30 years, they are always our babies. I am sorry you missed the call.

Your space encourages me every day. Your honesty with your feelings -- it helps me feel mine. I will say a prayer for your son and you.

I, like God, do not believe in coincidences. What happened is a sign that God is working in your life....believe it or not....Your Son is in good hands......

Maybe missing your son's call has meant he's spoken to someone else who was really wanting to hear from him. However sad you are to have missed his call, someone, somewhere, is delighted to have heard his voice. Small consolation when you are missing him yourself, I know ...

I hope you and your sister have a wonderful weekend together!

Prayers your way. Dads feel that way too, at least this one does...

My heart just aches when I read about your baby being over seas.

That sucks that you missed his call. So typical. That is something that would happen to me. The ONE time! Always!

You guys are so wise. My son called his sister instead of me and they had a great time catching up and goofing with each other. I was so happy when I talked to her this morning.

And I got an e-mail from him this morning. He is doing good. I am so proud of him. uh, oh... I'm crying again.

I know you were sad about missing your son's call but hey, he caught up with his sister! I'm so glad! Do you know how rare and special that can be? (If you have a very irritating younger brother, like I do, you might!)

I have never met you, but I get a great sense of family with you, a sense of acceptance. I feel you have faced your demons but never under-estimated them, and that you have passed on your courage to your children.

An anonymous person who has posted on here has expressed his/her appreciation of your honesty and I echo those feelings: Your space encourages me every day

I wish you a very happy weekend with your sister, and I hope you get a call from your son to put your mind at rest ...

Dying for a Drink ... Sober for 2 days but blew it tonight and hating myself ...
