Oy!

picture of me taking a picture of me.... where does all this vanity end?!?

Last night when I got home from work, I noticed a funky odor in my basement - like maybe there was a load of soaking wet towels in the washer that I had forgotten about for, say, a month. I could not find the source of the odor and got on with what I needed to do. What I needed to do was turn on my sprinkler system so that I could put flags on the sprinkler heads for the guy who was coming over to aerate my lawn... so I went to turn on my sprinkler system and instead seemed to open up a geyser on the side of my house. hmmmm. I shut the valves back off and I will get that fixed....sometime....hmmmm.

This morning, after taking the above photo, and while walking out the door to take a run, I noted the above mentioned odor again. I decided to look in the little closet that the furnace and hot water heater are in, and voile'! I have found the source of the odor! My hot water heater has leaked to the point that my carpet is soaked all the way down the hall and into the bedroom.

So, here is the good news. I actually can call a plumber (which I have already done) and can write a check to pay him (unless it is catastrophic, which I doubt) and probably will be at my desk by noon.

The other good news (I hope) is that this is now three things. 1. My garage door broke earlier this month. 2. My sprinkler system is broken, which I am not going to fix right at this very moment. 3. And my hot water heater has a problem. So this is all, right?

Oh, and I did take a run and it is a glorious morning.

Here is one more thing. Thanks to this program and learning to live life on life's terms one day at a time for 21+ years, I don't have to go mental over any of this. No tears, no screaming, no cussing.... that is truly a miracle.

Thanks to all you sober people for teaching me to live this way.

You're AWESOME!!! What perspective! 3 things and and you're done - I agreee. This should be the last of them. Good luck with the plumber. I had to learn a while ago to get them to tell me a price BEFORE they started the work, b/c after they'll tell you any damn thing they want and you're stuck paying it. : )

When life happens,

What is done is done, and now how do we remedy the situation if needed? Acceptance, patience, calmness . . . Logically this sounds like a plan, but when it happens the mind forgets. Ok, this is me at least but I am learning.

Ahhh, you give me so much hope for my reactive states.

A few days ago you were writting about how nice it is to have your own place, I agree it is nice but sometimes it can still cause inconviences to us. Those phones are great as well.

"So this is all, right?"

Hi Mary Christine :)

Thank you for what you do!

I have a suspicion that you have the same experience I do - that the reality of life has no respect for the number of new challenges we might face each day.

Sometimes I just really don't want to learn those lessons - ya' know? LOL...

ODAT,
Mark

Update: Not as costly as I thought - but very time consuming. I went to Home Depot and bought a shop vac and am in the process of trying to get the water up. I thank God for the lack of humidity in Denver - it really should dry up fine as long as I do a good job now. My boss canceled a meeting I was supposed to be at this afternoon so I will just stay home and get this done. And thank God I can.

...tears won't fix the sprinkler
...screaming won't fix the garage door
...cussing won't fix the hot water heater

we had a water pipe break under our house and it had been going for 3 weeks, and we didnt know... then after the neighbors, complained there backyard is being flooded...??? WTF??? we found it, and a $1500 water bill we are still paying off... not to mention we had to dig a hole to find the leak in the font porch and the lawn, anyways long story short, I was ok, until we had to shut the water off for a while... then I was instant iritable... oh well
